When should my child start going to the dentist?

Children should be visiting the dentist regularly as soon as 6 months after their first tooth erupts. This will allow us to not only offer cleanings– but examine for any possible dental problems as well. This also allows your child to get comfortable at the dentist, making future visits less difficult.

Why Should my Child See a Dentist Regularly?

Regardless of how young they are, having your child visit the dentist regularly is more important then you might think. It’s reported that nearly 1 in 5 children have untreated cavities, with gingivitis begin very common as well. Giving your dentist a chance to spot these issues through regularl visits is a guaranteed way of keeping your child’s smile happy and healthy. It also gives us a chance to see if they are brushing and flossing correctly. If you’re child already has experience with cavities or gum disease, it’s never too late for them to start taking better care of their teeth. Book an appointment with us today, so your child can start looking forward to going to the dentist.

Teeth Cleanings & Examinations

Having your child receive cleanings and exams regularly is the best way to make sure they maintain a clean and healthy mouth. The process involves first examining the state of your child’s teeth, removing any plaque or tartar, using a gritty toothpaste to thoroughly brush each tooth, and then flossing between each tooth in order to clean any leftover plaque. If your child is having difficulty with brushing or flossing, we’ll be able to spot the troublesome areas and provide a demonstration of how to effectively clean the area.

Dental Fillings

Cavities happen, and they aren’t the end of the world as long they’re treated swiftly. Once a tooth begins to decay, it’s important to remove the decayed area and fill the tooth as soon as possible. Composite fillings are made from acrylic resin and are reinforced with silica, quartz or ceramic. The resin blends seamlessly with the tooth, giving the impression that a cavity was never there. If a cavity is left untreated, the tooth decay further, which can possibly lead to the need for a root canal, or for the tooth to be replaced.

Emergency Dentistry

If you’re child is experiencing a chipped tooth, profound tooth pain, or profuse gum bleeding, know that they can rely on Essex Family Dental’s Emergency Dentistry services for relief. Broken or contorted orthodontic appliances can also be unpleasant. Depending on the severity of the issue, we’re able to fix or remove any appliance.
